Jannie Otto Safaris is based in South Africa, 40 minutes’ drive from the Kimberley airport in the Northern Cape. We also hunt in all Provinces of South Africa and other African Countries, Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique.
Length of Safari
Jannie Otto Safaris caters for safaris that range in length between 7-21 days. Hunters can be assured that on a 10-14 days safari they will return home with a good mixed bag of exciting trophies. Travelling time must be taken into consideration when hunting in different provinces for certain species of game. Jannie Otto Safaris can tailor make your safari to meet your trophy requirements. JOS’s experienced Professional Hunters will be with you every step of the way to guide you to a successful and fun safari.
The Hunting Season
In South Africa we hunt from February through November. Keep in mind that May is our autumn/fall whilst June, July and August are our winter months. September is spring with October and November going into summer. You can expect temperatures in the 40’s as a low and 70’s as a high in winter months. Mid 60’s to mid 90’s in spring and summer is average.
General Information
South Africa’s electricity supply is 220 volts AC 50 Hz. Appliances of lesser voltage require transformers and adapters.
Inoculations are not required for South Africa, however if a hunter is to hunt in other African countries, we recommend malaria and yellow fever prophylactics be taken. Please consult your medical practitioner on the subject.
Bottled water is available for drinking.
The Currency in South Africa is Rand but in all other African countries USD is accepted.

Daily Rates
Safari starts on day of arrival and stops on day of departure, considered a full safari day. A travelling day between provinces/hunting areas will be considered a full paying hunting day for hunters and observers.
Day of Arrival: arrival before 12h00 midday, a full day is charged; arrival after 12h00 midday, @ $200 pp.
Day of Departure: depart before 12h00 midday, @ $200pp; depart after 12h00 midday, a full day is charged.
Deposit Requirements & Insurance
50% of the total Hunter and Observer daily rates and transportation fees are required at the time of booking. The balance is due at least 30 days before the start of the safari.
Bank Transfers, cash, credit card (Master and VISA) acceptable. AMEX, DINERS CARDS and CHECKS are not accepted. Handling fee of 3% is charged on card payments. Please inform your Bank you will use your card in Africa.
No refunds on cancellations. Dates booked per contract will be paid for in full.
Before commencement of the safari, clients are required to complete and sign a safari contract, general information sheet and indemnity form. Available on www.jannieotto.com or JOS office.
Rifles & Ammunition
Bring a rifle that you are most comfortable with. A heavier calibre is recommended for larger animals. Have a document at hand that states proof of ownership and lists all inscriptions as well as a letter of invitation of JOS. You will be issued a temporary import permit at SAPS upon arrival. Up to 100 rounds of ammunition per rifle allowed. A 30.06, 270 and.375 are available for rent at USD50 per day, in addition to ammunition used.
Safari packages bought on any forum will not be allowed to run back-to back or continuous after each other.
Rates Include
-Field preparation of trophies and delivery to local taxidermist for processing.
-Full time service of professional hunters, skinners, trackers, caterers and camp staff.
-Accommodation includes towels, linen and daily laundry. .
-Catering of cuisine with fresh fruit, vegetables, salads and cooler boxes stocked daily for each hunting vehicle. Dietary requirements will be catered for as far as possible.
-All soft drinks and bottled water.
-Ground transportation in the field – i.e., one fully fitted hunting vehicle per PH. .
-Government value added tax (VAT) 15% is included in daily rates & transportation in SA .

-International arrival & departure flights and any other flights, either commercial or charter to and from areas, as well as hotel
-Clients flying between areas during the safari is responsible for his own, plus one guide and one skinner’s airfare.
-Airport transfer, meet & greet@ $400 per vehicle. .
-Additional vehicles hire. JOS use double cab hunting vehicles which can seat 4 passengers. If an additional vehicle is required for the safari, this will be at the client’s cost. t.
-Firearm clearance fee is charged at some domestic airports @ +/- $35 per rifle each way. .
-Firearm rentals $50 per day per firearm. Ammo at cost. t.
-Firearm import permit assistance (if required) @ $100 per person carrying rifles, at Johannesburg International Airport. .
-Liquor, wine, beer and mixes @ cost + 10%.
-Trophy charges as per price list.
-License fees and hunting licenses & permits where applicable. For example – -Northern License Cape Province Plains Game License @ $60 per hunter. CITES and -TOPS permits where applicable.
-Government value added tax (VAT) 15% is payable on trophies not exported. VAT is payable on all animals wounded & lost and/or bait/s used. VAT is charged on packages and donations. .
-VAT is charged on full value of packages and donations.
-Taxidermy and packaging, dipping & forwarding of trophies from local taxidermists to destination. This is not undertaken by JOS but by a South African Taxidermist who will deal directly with the client. t.
-Other activities. The cost of any tours & sightseeing, side trips or any additions to the confirmed safari itinerary.
-Gratuities appreciated. Recommended: camp staff – $10 per day, PH $100 per day. .
-Travelling between provinces @ $250 per car.
